Reflections of my 1st Semester in Nus

At the age of 19, most males will probably be envious. While their female counterparts are relishing the new found excitment in University, the appalled male "nation warriors" had to be shrouded within the big organization of "The Army"... I'm no different.

Often, i anticipate the alluring prospect of life in University. After a long and gruelling wait, this day finally arrived - August 2005, I discarded the familar green uniform and put on the so called "civilian clothing". Holding my head high, I walked pompously into The National University of Singapore. "This is where i truly belong", I said to myself with aplomb.

A new chapter of my life has begun. I exuded great enthusiasm at the beginning of the semester. "Start off with a bang" was my mentality. Its widely believed that University life is happening and fun, but i beg to differ. Perhaps i chose to be insipid, but Im here to study, and to graduate with a respectable honors degree. Its that simple, and i made no efforts to complicate things.

Despite my early surge, my dormacy in Army is taking its toll on me. There's no question about my work rate, yet i always seem to flop in tests. Not enough exam / test practice? Lack of sleep? Or am i simply not good enough? Im terribly daunted by my sporadic failures to perform in tests. At one stage, i even confessed to my mom that an honors degree is perhaps out of my reach.

Despite the trepidation, I didnt do too badly for my first sem, managing a CAP score of 3.9, just missing the 2nd Upper Honors Mark. In retrospect, its probably decent considering the long lay off from school and the impeding low self belief that i had prior to the exams.

Earnestly, I told myself to work even harder for Semester 2...

A tribute to Alan Shearer

He plays his last game for Newcastle United today. My football idol of more than 10 years, Alan Shearer has finally decided to call it a day.

Alan has been a wonderful servant to Newcastle United. Worshipped by all Newcastle fans, Alan ended his illustrious career today after 10 great years at Newcastle United. He is the club's all time leading goal scorer with 206 goals.

Shearer's presence, both on and off the pitch will be sorely missed as we (Newcastle) look forward to the post Shearer era.

Gone may Shearer be, but he will forever stay in the hearts of any Magpie fan....
Long Live King Shearer!

Here are some snap shots of Shearer:

Class 95 Blind Dates

As a fan of love songs, I relish tuning in to Class 95 at nights.

However, the notion of blind date turns me off. How different is this from IRC and the chat lines that we can find in 'The New Paper'? Prob this one is on air and sounds more cool?

Upon the actual date, are they going to fufill the wonderful impression that were given to the other party over the phone?

Share your thoughts if u wish. :)

But i still enjoy the music of Class 95...

Happy Anniversary to the Girl of my life

Exactly 27 months ago, the best thing in my life happened

She said "Yes" to me...

Thank you for being mine...

A New Bicycle!!

I cant do without a bicycle. On the day when my bike was stolen, i made a count... it took me 1384 steps to get home from the station. With a bicycle, it took me 5 mins. Heck!

So i went down to Sembawang to get a new bicycle. This new bike is rather attractive, with a matt blue frame, and it comes with a suspension. Performance wise, it is definitely uncomparable with my former trek bike *sob*, but im quite happy with the purchase. Fixed in the bell, back seat with cushion, stand and foot rest.

Meanwhile, i bought a really good lock this time round. Cost price was $32. But a successful bargain with the Uncle got me the bike with the all attachment and the lock for $315. (Well, i was intending to fork out around $200 before i went to the shop, but things arent always as ideal as u anticipate, rite?).

However, the shop keeper did warn that no lock is entirely safe, if someone comes along with a thick cutter, how good a lock is will eventually be useless. Unless u purchase a lock that cost $300 (u can get that online i believe). It guarantees the safety of your bike. In an event that the bike was stolen, the company will return u the cost price of the bike!!! Sounds cool rite? but a lock for $300? Eh... I think i'll stick to the $32 lock. I also read from the net (I've done some research on bicycle security k!) that some bicycle comes with a GPS, so u can track your bicycle with satellite if its stolen!!! Wah, sounds like Mission Impossible!!! William cruise in the making!!! But guess what, the bike cost more than $1000 USD. (no more William cruise liaoz)

So, a new bike for me now, have to be extra careful when it comes to choosing where to park my bike. Now, i'll pick a spot where there'll often be crowds. Hopefully, i dont have to come down with yet another heartbreak of a stolen bike.

Enough crap for today, going to play football manager now....

A Sad Sad Day :(

Im very very upset. My bicycle was stolen.

Its been a routine for me cycle to the MRT station and park my bike there whenever i need to go out. Despite locking my bike, I know its never entirely safe. One fine day, someone will steal it away. And that day has arrived... 5th may 2006...

This bicycle has been with me for 3 years. Back when i was still an army boy, this bicycle would accompany me to camp everyday. Ever since i moved house, i've grown to be more dependant on my bike, to get me to basically anyway. Just recently, I fixed a back seat to it so that i can fetch my sister or gf around.

Though it looks pretty old and 'run down', we've been through some tough times. Its a pity that we have to part company in such a manner.

Good bye my bike, thank you for your 3 wonderful years of contribution. Hope your new owner will treat you well...
